What kind of blade is used in scrapers?
Scraper blades are mostly made of carbon steel or stainless steel. Carbon steel is preferred for heavy-duty applications because the blades are generally thicker and stronger. Stainless steel blades, on the other hand, are more flexible and rust-resistant, but not as sharp. Stainless steel blades are recommended if you rarely use your scraper.
Most small scrapers, which are also called single edge scrapers, use one-edged blades with a reinforced opposite side for a complete and better locking of the blade in the scraper head. But there are also double-edged blades that can be reversed when one side becomes blunt from use, thereby using both sides of the blade before it has to be disposed of. These blades are mostly present in large scrapers, such as window scrapers. Ordinary reinforced razor blades are one-edged and cannot be reversed.
